ARTIST RESEARCH
SABATO VISCONTIVisconti is a brazilian multimedia artist. He began experimenting with glitch processes in 2011. He likes to push the boundaries of photography and media.
His work has been published in Time, WIRED, AL-APs latin america fotographia Anthology and many more. He recently completed a body of work displaying glitch art called 'cachemash','jules in june' and 'your experiences aren't real'. |
CONTENT - In most of Visconti's work the subject is usually a female whos features are distorted with the glitch technique .The subjects are dressed in vibrant colours which draws the viewers attention. these photographs are deliberately manipulated to achieve a final outcome. Visconti gave his works various different names such as 'jules in the summer' and 'cachemash'.The different names reflect what is being displayed in the different images. perhaps the photographer is trying to show that there are different prespectives to what we see everyday.
FORM - The photographer uses bright, bold and vivid colours, which creates a happier mood within the images. the majority of colours that are displayed are warmer colours which could be linked to summer colours with connotations of joy and child like innocence. the images all have unique patterns , like horizontal or diagonal lines in some and a pixlated efffect in others. this gives each image a different look and therefore he avoids having work that has the same apperance.
PROCESS - Most of the images are taken outside and the final outcomes were heavily dependent on the post production process. the photographer uses mostly natural lighting as the images are taken outside, however, the time the images are taken does vary as some of them are taken during day light and others during the night.
MOOD - the images with brighter colour and that are taken during the day create a contrasting mood to those taken at night. i find that the images taken during the day are distorted with horizontal/vertical lines whihc create a calm and relaxing atmosphere, whereas, the ones taken during the night and are distortated with the cachemash effect are rather discomforting to stare at.

DAVID SZAUDERSzauder is a German digital artist, living in berlin. he recently completed a series of work called 'Failed Memory' where he used the glitch technique to distort images, only distorting the subjects head, his work showcases photographs that are purposely altered to fit the name of the work. His work is inspired by the parallels he sees between human and digital memory. |
In Szauders work the subjects head is usually distorted. The artist named his series of work 'Failed memories' to show the parallels between human and digital memory. Szauder uses the glitch effect to distort the subjects face while leaving the rest of the image undistorted. The photographs perhaps represent the way in which human memory can fade and how memories aren't always clear.
The images are usually dull colours which in my opinion means that attention is drawn to the distorted faces as opposed to bold vivid colours. The way in which the photographer has distorted the image the created square patterns in the image which gives a pixelated effect.
The outcomes heavily rely on post production. The photographs have been manipulated and exaggerated through photoshop.

IDEA SHEETS
PHOTOSHOOT ONE
LOCATION: Brighton pier
OBJECTIVE: Photo-shoot for images to be distorted in photo-shop, potentially as final pieces
OBJECTIVE: Photo-shoot for images to be distorted in photo-shop, potentially as final pieces
This photo shoot was taken in Brighton. I decided to go with landscaped for my glitch unit. i wanted to take pictures of colourful and interesting things. the colours would makes the glitch effect more interesting. I thought that street photography would be really interesting and would fit this unit.
PHOTOSHOOT TWO
LOCATION: knightsbridge, London
OBJECTIVE: shoot towards final piece

PHOTOSHOOT THREE
LOCATION: Westminster, London
OBJECTIVE: shoot towards final piece
OBJECTIVE: shoot towards final piece
This photoshoot was in westminster, London eye. I think that the photoshoot went well because. I tried to apply the rule of thirds which made the image more interesting. The use of rule of thirds allowed me to be able to have the object on one side of the image and the rest of the picture was black space which came in handy when editing as i was able to move parts of the object into the empty space
PHOTOSHOOT FOUR

PHOTOSHOP (glitch effect)
Step one: open up an image in photoshop and duplicate the image
Step two: make only the top layer visible and convert it into a smat object
Step three: go to filter, distort and select 'wave'
Step four: change the wavelength to 'min 2' and 'max 570'. amplitude to 'min 1' and 'max 30' and scale to 'horiz 100' and 'vert 1'
Step five: repeat step three but cange the wavelength and amplitude to min 2 and max 300. change the scale to horizontal 20 and vertical 1.
step six: drag a textured image over the glitched image and change the layer to soft light
Step seven: go to filter, filter gallery. select 'sketch' and halftone pattern
Step eight: using the rubber tool, erase any parts of the image you dont want to be in colour
