These are my two favourite images from Pichler's work. The food is shot against black which makes the colours stand out. The vivid green, yellow and red in the photographs draws the audiences attention to them. Pichler named this body of work "One third' in an attempt to show and represent the amount of food wasted around the world. The pineapple has been cut in half which allows the photographer to show the different colours , it is also slightly elevated from the ground. The tomato has been mirrored and resembles a butterfly. These images have been taken inside, in a studio which allows the photographer to control the lighting. The photographs are well lit possibly with one overhead light source due to the shadows in the images. The colours make the images come to life, they are warm colours with positive connotations uh as happiness, however, this is contrasted by the theme of the images which is rotten food. although the mood created in the images through the use of colour is a positive one, the message behind the body of work isn't. This is a unit of work that is trying to get the audience to think about food waste. It is discussing and important issue through art.

OBJECTIVE: PRACTICE SHOOTING WITH ROTTEN FOOD, CLOSE UPS
This photoshoot went okay, it was just a few close ups of some strawberries shot against black. the main aim of this photoshoot was to practice working with rotten food. i used a single light source to try and create a darker atmosphere with shadows, i also tried to implicate the use of a wide depth of field and so only part of the image would be in focus. This was a photo shoot of some mouldy strawberries, they were a greenish/grey which has negative connotations. the photo shoot was taken indoor so i could control the lighting. this photoshoot could be improved my making the presentation of the fruit more interesting as opposed to just having them placed in one place.

This was a photo-shoot of an orange. I tried to play around with different types of lighting and the number of light sources in order to try and find what worked best. The majority of these photos were close ups and I tried to fill the frame. The majority of the images had only some parts of the image in focus, drawing the audiences attention to them, however, I didn't remove the label from the orange which looking back i realise wasn't a good idea because it distracts the audience from the fruit its self.
This is one of my favourite images from the photo shoot. It is a close up of a rotting Orange. The photo was shot against black which contrasts the vibrant orange and makes the fruit stand out even more. the mould line cuts halfway through the fruit in a diagonal line which i found to make the image more interesting. I tried to use a rule of composition which is filling the frame, i also played around with the aperture to change the focus in the photography. The orange is orange is meant to represent life and happiness where as the mould presents the opposite. I was hoping that this is what my audience would get from this photograph.

In this photo shoot i tried to play around with the lighting, The subject was grapes. overall i didn't like the outcome of these photos. the photoshoot was done against a black background which looking back i think was a bad decision as it meant that the image was consumed by the background and didn't stand out again it. These where mostly close ups of grapes, however I feel that the presentation of this food would be made more interesting. I also feel like going forward the photo shoots should be shot against a white background as then the audience would be able to see the subject clearly. The colours in these photos are darker colours and therefore representing darker connotations.
IDEA SHEETS
I decided that i needed to present the fruit better and so i drew up new idea sheets,

OBJECTIVE: SHOOT TOWARDS FINAL PIECE
This was the first photoshoot i shot against white. The white background doesn't drown out or distract from the subject, instead it makes the subject stand out even more. this was a shoot of rotting apples, i made an attempt to present them in an interesting was by stacking them up into a pyramid. I decided to the apples getting mouldier as the pyramid goes up. some of the apples are a bright lime green which contrasts the theme of the photoshoot, however, some of the apples are a wrinkled mud brown. These two different colours are supposed to evoke contrasting emotions in the audience . I used two sources of light to make sure the subject, background and entire photo were well lit.

This was a photoshoot i really liked. The concept was a plate of dinner with the food being rotten. I used a white plate and placed a knife and fork on either side of the plate. This was to make it look like a real dinner table setting. again i shot against white and i shot the majority of the photos from a high angle point of view, this is so all the food can be seen and the audience can envision themselves looking down on the meal. I used some rotten carrots as they were a bright colour, i feel like having a bright colour stops the image from being overrun by dull colours and adds a sense of vibrance to the image. the photograph is take inside and i alternated form using one to using two sources of light. this allowed me to get a range of different outcomes such as images with split lighting to images that are fully lit.

This was a photo-shoot of strawberries and cream. I thought the photo-shoot went okay, however, i had applied too much cream to the bowl and therefore the strawberries were sinking in and couldn't really be seen. I tried to take pictures from different angles ranging from high angles to close ups. This was to give me a variety in choice when choosing my final pieces. In some of the photographs ha had someone pouring cream into the bowl and used a fast shutter speed to take pictures of the flowing liquid. I also had someone pick ip one of the strawberries and hold it above the bowl. The overriding colour in this photo shoot was white, this is because both the background and the cream were white, This lack of vibrant colours offers something different from my previous photo-shoots which have all had some sort of bright/vibrant/vivid colour.

I think this photo-shoot went really well, i use a knife and a capping board as props, i started off by taking a few mid shots of the knife and the bread and a few close ups of the bread. then began cutting slices of bread and taking pictures. I used two light sources in the majority of my photos. This was so the images would be well lit. The photo-shoot was against a white background and was taken inside.
EXPERIMENTATION
I was initially going to use high angle shot of the subject, against a black background as my final piece, However, having completed them i felt that the final outcoes were lacking in someway. i do not think that my attempt to present the food in a creative way wored out as well as i would have liked it to.

This was a photoshoot of Kiwis. I decided to use a macro lens and take close of shots of the fruit making sure to fill the frame. I took pictures of both the exterior and the inside of the fruit. These images were taken outside with the use of natural light.
