Hal KawaguchiHal Kawaguchi is a Tokyo based photographer. He first became interested in photgraphy after traveling to india. he recently completed a series of work that documented married couples. He literally wrapped them in each other, he covers them in lube and packs them in vacuum packs together before sucking out the oxygen. the subjects are placed in awkward positions which makes the images appear distorted.

This is a series of work that documents married couples. the photographer has used vacuum packs as a way to represent the connections between people in relationships. the subjects are wrapped in each other, they are presented against a white background and are wearing nothing. this gives the image a raw yet clean outcome.
The images are titled 'fresh love' which perhaps explains why there are two subjects for each photograph. The photograph is well lit and taken in a studio . There are no bold or vivid colours. Looking at the image is a little uncomfortable due to the way in which the subjects are positioned, however, the concept is unique and interesting. |
PHOTOSHOOT ONE
LOCATION: Lampton School
OBJECTIVE: Experiment wrapping people in clingfilm
OBJECTIVE: Experiment wrapping people in clingfilm
This photo-shoot was my first attempt at using cling film. I decided to experiment with applying the clingfilm to only specific parts of the face, however, I believe the photo-shoot did not com out well. the use of the black background wasn't good as the background was very reflective. I tried to use split lighting as i thought it would give the image a darker and more sinister look but it resulted in the green reflecting on the clingfilm and negatively effecting the image. overall this photo-shoot did not turn out well.
With this photo-shoot i changed the background i was shooting against from black to white which in turn had a better outcome. I also then experimented with adding more cling film to the subjects face and completely covering their faces with it. this gave a more distorted outcome to the images. although the application of the cling film and the background had improved from the last shoot, i thought the lighting was still lacking in this shoot. The subject isn't lit well enough and does not stand out from the background which is something I aim to improve for the next photo-shoot.
PHOTOSHOOT TWO
LOCATION: LAMPTON SCHOOL
OBJECTIVE; SHOOT TOWARDS FINAL PIECE
OBJECTIVE; SHOOT TOWARDS FINAL PIECE
I think this photo-shoot was a significant improvement from the first. I made sure the subject wore black so as to not distract from her face. the black also contrast the white background, making the subject standout. I decided to use spray lighting which made the subject stand out even more as it separated her from the background.

OBJECTIVE: SHOOT TOWARDS FINAL PIECE
I liked this photo-shoot because i managed to apply the clingfilm in a way that compressed the subjects nose and therefore the image looked more distorted. I also used spray lighting to make the subject stand out against the background.
